How does this class meet?
The class is a blended-hybrid class. We meet from 6pm - 8:20pm, Monday and Wednesday nights in-person on campus, and the class is also simulcast live via zoom.
- Each class session we meet together in person on campus, with the ability to join online via Zoom. Attendance guidelines:
- If you are ill, join via Zoom.
- If you are in another locale, join via Zoom.
- If you are in Portland, join in-person on campus.
- The sessions consist of lectures, hands on practice, Q and A, and discussions.
- Outside of the class sessions, you are expected to study and practice using Fusion by doing the lab assignments.
- Saturdays is evaluation day, your lab assignments are due and feedback/guidance is given. Also, Saturday is when the fresh study material is assigned.
Missing a class? Need to review the lecture? No problem, the sessions are recorded.
What should you do prior to class?
- In the week before class you will get an email announcing your access to Fusion. Click on the link in the email to get Fusion installed. (see below)
- Login to MyPCC > D2L and engage in the discussion forum and read the pre-class study materials.
- Find the Zoom links in D2L
- Attend the optional pre-class meetup, via Zoom, usually the Saturday before the term starts. This optional meeting is to welcome you to class, get your license, and answer your questions. Of course it will be nice to get to know each other too!
What kind of Fusion license should you use for class?
You will need an education (student) license for Fusion and to install Fusion. Beginning one week before class, and continuing until the first night, I will assign a Fusion educational license to every student who enrolls, regardless if you do or don't already have an account. No worries, the system will work for you either way.
What if you already have a student license and Fusion is already installed on your computer?
Do not get a new ID and do not install Fusion, you are ready to go. But please do read the rest of the information below.
If you don't have an accountIf you don't have an Autodesk Account, you'll need to create one before you can download your products. A week before class starts, all enrolled students will be assigned a student license for Fusion.
- In the Autodesk email you receive when you're assigned a product, follow the instructions to create an Autodesk Account.
- Enter your first name, last name, email address, and password. The email field contains the email address where you received your product assignment. It is also your new Autodesk user ID.
- Check the box to agree to the Autodesk Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and click Create Account.
- Click Done in the confirmation message.
- Go to Products and Services in the navigation bar.
- Locate your product and click Download Now or View Downloads.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download Windows or Mac software.
- After you download the .exe or .dmg file, follow the onscreen instructions to install.
Keep your Autodesk user ID and password in a safe place, such as a password management application. It's required to access product downloads from your account and, in some cases, to sign in to Autodesk products.
If you have an accountIf you already have an Autodesk Account, sign in and download your products.
- In the Autodesk email you receive when you're assigned to products, click the Sign In to Get Started button. Or, go directly to Autodesk Account at manage.autodesk.com and sign in.
Note: If you're prompted, set up 2-step verification or click Remind Me Later.
- Click Products and Services in the navigation bar.
- Locate your product and click Download Now or View Downloads.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download Windows or Mac software.
- After you download the .exe or .dmg file, follow the onscreen instructions to install.
Installing Fusion
Install Fusion prior to the first night of class.
What kind of email account can you use to communicate with the teacher after enrolling in the class?
A PCC provided email is the only acceptable form of communication once you are enrolled in the class. Federal privacy laws bar me from communicating with registered students outside of the PCC email system.
Please email phil.eichmiller@pcc.edu if you have questions.

- Either sign-in to or create an Autodesk account and complete your education profile.
- Click Get Product on the Fusion product tile.
- Click Access on the Fusion product tile.
- You now have an educational subscription to Fusion and can access Fusion on a Chromebook by visiting https://fusion.online.autodesk.com.
Note: When you complete step 5, a download of the Fusion desktop client is automatically launched. There is no need to install the desktop client to access Fusion on a Chromebook and you can simply close this browser window.
Zoom: Install or update to the latest version of Zoom prior to class.
Helpful but not required: A second monitor, either paired to your laptop or desktop computer. Also a microphone so you can participate in discussions.
*Viewing the class zoom session over a mobile device such as a phone or tablet is not recommended. Most of the demonstrations include use of Fusion and small screens are not suitable for this purpose.
**If at all possible, in addition to your primary monitor, it would be very helpful to have a second full size monitor. This will allow you to have the zoom session on one screen, and your own Fusion session on another. Inexpensive used monitors are suitable for this purpose and well worth the investment.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
