Details about this class

Criminal Law CJA 212 for Summer Term (CRN 31424) is an IN-PERSON class at the Cascade Campus for PCC. The class will be held in Jackson Hall Room 106 (near the intersection of N. Kirby and N. Jessup) beginning Tuesday, June 25th from 10:00am until 12:50pm, every Tuesday until about September 5th. It is essential for all students to have the textbook in any form, "Criminal Law" by Joel Samaha (published by Cengage Learning) but be sure to get the 12th Edition. You cannot survive this class without the textbook. We will have four (4) quizzes during the term, a few written Discussions, and two writing assignments, including a longer one entitled "Case Analysis Paper." We will have several guest speakers from the criminal justice community such as a judge, a defense attorney, a police detective, and/or a probation officer. We may have a field trip to the new Multnomah County Courthouse in downtown Portland to witness real criminal cases. The class will also be graded on Attendance and Participation so it is imperative that students attend all classes unless excused by the instructor.  The instructor is John Deits who spent 39 years as a state and federal prosecuting attorney.
