Details about this class

Welcome to CHN 103: First Year Chinese - Third Term (CRN 32957)

Placement:

CHN103 is for students having completed CHN102 or the equivalent. If you are uncertain whether CHN 103 is the appropriate course for you, please email me (cilei.han@pcc.edu) a brief self-introduction written (or typed) in Chinese characters, using either simplified or traditional script. You can also consult the CHN 103 CCOG page for an overview of the course content.

Course Highlights:

This course builds upon previously acquired skills to help students develop Novice High proficiency in vocabulary and grammar. Students expand their speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities through increasingly complex and meaningful everyday situations. Emphasis is placed on shopping, transportation, weather, and ordering food in a Chinese restaurant.

Workload:

In addition to our class meetings (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00–7:20 PM, Sylvania Campus), you will complete additional coursework asynchronously on your own time, including homework and projects. You should plan to spend at least 4–5 hours per week studying and completing assignments.

  • A Simplified Chinese keyboard must be installed for written assignments.

  • A headset or earbuds with a built-in microphone are strongly recommended for listening and speaking activities to ensure clear audio quality.
