Details about this class
My name is Karah, and this is my seventh year teaching writing at PCC. It's my second year as the faculty advisor for The Bellwether Review. I've been working on literary magazines since I was in college myself, and I really enjoy teaching this class.
In this course, students will work together to design and publish The Bellwether Review, Rock Creek's annual literary journal. We'll read and vote on submissions, communicate with contributors, learn more about InDesign, and collaborate on aesthetic choices for the magazine. Student-editors will also participate in a release party at the end of the term.
In WR 246/249, you'll also have the opportunity to get some feedback on your creative work in mixed-genre workshops with classmates. You'll turn in a portfolio, chapbook, or other creative writing project as your final.
You're welcome to reach out to me via email if you have any questions about WR 246/249! If you're really interested in this course and don't meet the prerequisites, please email me and we can discuss a registration override.
Technology
You'll need some type of word processor (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pages, etc.) to complete your writing assignments. You'll also need reliable Internet access and some kind of device (computer, phone, tablet) for editorial work.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
