Details about this class

How can you be successful in Writing 115?

Attend class and work closely with the instructor; you'll earn points for attendance!

Remember, you already have the talents you need for this class:

  • you know how to persuade
  • you know how to take a side in an argument
  • you know how to organize ideas by what matters most to you
  • you know how to perform “information literacy” tasks (searching on the Internet, evaluating what you find there)
  • you know how to recognize someone’s tone of voice

Trust yourself

  • Choose topics to write about that interest and motivate you
  • Know that you do not have to work alone; you can write to or talk with me or a tutor or a classmate. You can get research help from a librarian.
  • Remember that getting started is the hardest part for ALL of us, and once you get started, momentum will carry you forward

Technology

This term we will meet twice a week in person on Cascade Campus for 1 hour and 50 minutes each time, and during the class sessions we will work together and individually with the instructor.

Before the start of term, get familiar with the use of Google Documents, especially the Share and Comment features. We will use Google Documents to collaborate, read, and write together.

Also, practice navigating inside the D2L Brightspace platform where our course materials and homework instructions are stored. Using D2L allows us to avoid textbook costs and makes turning in your work easier.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
