Details about this class

This course requires attendance to remote synchronous class meetings via Zoom (days and times are indicated in the schedule of classes) as well as completion of asynchronous assignments and assessments. Attendance is required. If you have any questions or concerns in regard to this attendance policy, please contact your instructor.

The time commitment for this course includes the time that you spend in synchronous class meeting via Zoom (4 hours per week) plus time spent on studying and completing a homework load appropriate for a 4-credit, college-level course (about two hours outside of class for each credit hour). This time commitment includes both synchronous work (e.g. class meetings, practice with classmates) and asynchronous work (e.g. studying, homework).

Students are highly recommended to take SPA 203 and SPA 213C simultaneously.

SPA 213C is a one-credit conversation course that meets twice a week for 25 minutes (50 min/week). For SPA 203 (CRN 21487), your recommended section of SPA 213C is CRN 21486. This conversation class meets 30 minutes before your SPA 203, and it’s taught by the same instructor.

Why take SPA 213C? In the conversation class, you will have an opportunity to practice what you are learning in SPA 203. You will be working on your listening and speaking skills with classmates, with your instructor’s guidance and support. Students who don’t take 213C will have 10 hours less practice with the Spanish language than the classmates who take SPA 213C. SPA 203 + SPA 213C is an excellent combination to develop your communicative skills (aural and oral), and communication is the main goal of our Spanish program.

The Spanish department works with our textbook publisher Vista Higher Learning (VHL) to negotiate the best price possible for students, so we recommend that you purchase the textbook package either from the PCC Bookstore or directly from VHL's custom link for PCC students. We do not recommend buying a used textbook because it will likely end up costing more than buying the textbook package new from the PCC Bookstore or VHL.

Technology

To attend this class, you need to have reliable internet access, and a computer with microphone and webcam.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
