Details about this class
This course will help students better understand some of the problems we face as a society. We'll consider these problems from a sociological perspective, meaning that we'll pay special attention to root causes, historical forces and systems. This class will zero in on the climate crisis. We'll explore the root causes of climate change, and the way it relates to other social issues like corporate power, economic inequality, settler colonialism, and racial and gender injustice.
This class will meet twice each week. Every week, prior to class, students will:
- read lots of fascinating things
- write essays some weeks
In our class meetings, we will discuss what we read and its implications for our lives.
We won't have any exams, and students will grade themselves using a participatory grading process.
I feel that this class is fascinating and deeply important. I look forward to learning alongside you!
Sincerely,
Ben
