Details about this class
Welcome! Thanks for being interested in this class.
In this class we'll be studying how our brains work, and learning how we can cultivate certain habits to become better readers, writers and thinkers. Studying our minds helps us track what's working for us as learners, adjust where we can, and advocate for what we need.
We will read Emilly Prado's "Funeral for Flaca," a group of essays about growing up and struggling with mental health, family and culture. While we read, we'll keep a reading log, and we'll write narrative stories about our own lives, inspired by the short essays. We'll also do a research project based on the book, which will help us investigate something we're curious about and become experts in.
I have been teaching at PCC for seven years. I am also a writer. In my spare time, you can find me reading novels, working in my garden, or escaping to the forest. I use she/her/hers and they/them pronouns and I invite you to share your pronouns with me.
