Details about this class
Welcome to PHY211! This course is the first of three calculus-based physics courses offered at PCC, and broadly investigates the topics of motion, energy, and forces. PHY211 lays the foundation for the next physics classes students will take, as well as engineering and other sciences. It's a fun class with many practical applications to the real world, including sports and projectiles, bridge and building construction, wrecking balls, rockets, spinning ice skaters and much more!
This class will take place entirely in-person at the Rock Creek campus. Attendance in lecture and lab is required, as students will learn best by working with other students in a collaborative setting. Lectures will give students opportunities to practice using physics to solve problems, and labs will offer a hands-on environment for students to conduct experiments and take measurements to verify physical laws and theories.
The textbook for this course is Physics for Scientists and Engineers by Randall Knight. Any edition of the textbook can be used for this class, students looking to save money on textbook costs should seek out used or older editions. Other undergraduate, calculus-based physics textbooks may also work for this class, if students have access to another physics textbook and would like to see if it's compatible, please email the instructor.
Technology
There is no additional technology required for this class.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
