Welcome to STAT 243!  

This class will be meeting in person, and attendance is required :)

Our class time will focus on exploring statistical concepts. You, as the learner of these concepts, will be asked to take an active roll in this exploration. This will mean coming to class prepared, ready to work, unafraid to make mistakes, and willing to learn from your mistakes. 

Please note is that this class has a lab component. During lab time, you will be asked to work together with other students to engage in authentic statistical exploration. Lab materials will be accessed online and do not need to be purchased. 

For this section of STAT 243, we will be using the textbook Statistics: Unlocking the Power of Data by Lock5. DO NOT PURCHASE THE eTEXT FROM THE BOOKSTORE! We have a lower rate through the publisher ($39)! I will send out information on how to purchase access to the text and online materials the week before classes start. 

The decision to use a publisher text over OER was not an easy one. In my opinion, the quality of the publisher materials is worth the cost when compared with the available OER (free) options. Please contact me to discuss other options if the cost of the text is a barrier to taking this class.    

We will be using the Wiley Plus online homework system that comes packaged with our text. Information on how to purchase the etext and associated tools will be sent out about a week before classes start :) DO NOT PURCHASE THE eTEXT FROM THE BOOKSTORE! We have a lower rate through the publisher. 

We will be using the statistics app that comes with the text, as well as a few other applications that can be accessed for free online. Calculators are not required for this class, though a scientific calculator is recommended.
