Details about this class

Calculus III is a fun course. You may be exposed to some ideas in mathematics that you have never considered before, and will be important and/or useful as you continue learning math, science, computing, engineering, etc. beyond this course.

Most of the course is about sequences and series, and how we make sense out of adding infinitely many things together. This course also introduces you to differential equations (later you could take MTH 256) and covers a few interesting applications that were omitted from MTH 251 and 252 since we cannot fit them in ten-week terms.

Occasionally to visualize something better than I can draw it, or to speed up easy-but-time-consuming calculations, we will use computer tools in class. Your homework will be a combination of (a) an online homework tool where you can practice techniques, find answers, and use the tool to instantly check if you are correct or not, and (b) hand-written (or typed) explanations that allow me to check your deeper understanding of this and that, as well as help you grow your math communication skills.

Most likely we will have three exams, including the final exam during finals week. Some components of each exam might be take-home.

Depending on how many students end up in the class, we might do individual or group projects. With the option to either present them to the class on the last day of class, or turn in a written report of your topic.

Technology

Any technology we use will be freely available and run from a web browser.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
