Course Materials

  • Purchasing a physical copy of the textbook is not required.
  • Everyone needs to print or have digital access to the required course notes during class time. These notes will be available for download on the course D2L page.

Class Structure

  • There might be one or two videos to watch about course content before each class. You should take notes about the videos on premade course notes. 
  • Come to class to fill in the rest of the course notes, ask questions, get to know your classmates, and figure out the details of the course.
  • Attendance is required. Please come prepared to participate! Classtime will be an active discussion for the entire time.
  • I will record class on Zoom and recordings will be available in the Zoom tab for anyone who cannot make it to class.
  • Come to student-hours when you have questions and read the textbook to help fill in gaps in understanding.

Assignments

  • There will be practice book homework to solidify comprehension. Book Homework will not be collected.
  • There will be 5 to 8 Graded Assignment posted online throughout the term, and you'll have about a week to do them at home. They are all free response questions.
  • There will be two exams and a final exam. The exams will all have a portion in class and a portion to take home to use a calculator.

Technology

You will need:

  • A PDF reader (such as Adobe Acrobat Reader).
  • Familiarity with file management, email, and uploading documents.
  • Ability save several pages to a single pdf file and upload to D2L. Options to create pdf documents: phone apps that save as pdf (suggestions will be given), scanner, or copiers at the PCC or other libraries that can scan documents and send to an email.

We use Desmos and Wolfram alpha in class, which are both free. Download the free Desmos Graphing Calculator app to your phone before classes begin.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
