Details about this class

This class will be organized as "flipped class."  In a flipped class, the traditional activities that occur during class meetings vs. outside of class meetings are "flipped" so students watch videos and study the textbook or other "lecture notes" outside of class and, during class, students work on practice problems, something that traditionally would have taken place at home as "homework."

In our class, students will be given access to "online lecture notes" along with videos of "lectures" that show the completion of class notes: students will be expected read/study the online lecture notes and watch/study the videos of class notes in advance of our class meetings each week.

During our class meetings, the instructor will answer questions about the content students read & watched before class and often give a short presentation (e.g., go over a couple of examples).  Then students will organize into small groups and work on practice problems that will help prepare them for the weekly graded assignment.

I recommend that you do NOT purchase the textbook that listed at the Bookstore for this class. The content of the textbook is accessible for FREE online. If you discover that you would prefer to have a hard-copy of the textbook, you can purchase it at that time; but I don't think you will need it so I encourage you to wait until our class starts before purchasing the textbook.

If you have any questions, please email me at phaberma@pcc.edu.

Technology

It's often useful to convert handwritten paper documents into PDFs so it's important that students are able to do this. A proper scanner probably works best but there are lots of free apps that can be used to convert phone-photos of paper documents into PDFs.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
