Details about this class

I'm very excited to be offering this somewhat unique in-person ALM 111B course.

In general, ALC and ALM math labs are intended to provide additional math support for students, whether you're currently registered for an MTH class, planning on taking on a MTH course in the future, or just wanting to reinforce and build your math skills.

What makes me excited is that this specific section is paired with my MTH 111 course, so you can only register for this ALM 111B course if you are taking my MTH 111 course (CRN 24634).  Because it is paired with my MTH 111 course, this ALM 111B course will be used for two main things:

  • to help you review prerequisite topics that you might be a little rusty on and
  • to give you additional time on the MTH 111 topics we cover this term

Simply put, the goal of this course will be to increase your chances of passing our MTH 111 course by building up your knowledge base and giving you extra time on the MTH 111 concepts.

Our class will meet in person twice a week in a computer lab and we'll meet before our MTH 111 course.  Using both mini lectures and the ALEKS computer system, we'll work to help you review past math concepts that we'll build upon in MTH 111 and also give you time to practice on the MTH 111 concepts as well.

ALEKS, in case you aren't aware, is an adaptive computer system.  It uses knowledge checks and content progress to provide appropriate concepts for you to try, while also filling in any spots where your mathematical background is perhaps a little thin.

Please note that we'll also use a different side of ALEKS in our MTH 111 course.  You will have two ALEKS logins, since the ALM 111B ALEKS system is separate from the MTH 111 ALEKS system.

All ALC and ALM math labs are graded as Pass/No Pass.  To pass this ALM course, you will need to attend a minimum number of class meetings, as well as put in a minimum amount of time in the ALM ALEKS system.

As long as you're attending class, there will be no outside homework assigned from this ALM 111B course.  (You will have regular homework from our MTH 111 course.)

The final thing to be aware of is that this ALM 111B is not a study hall for our MTH 111 course.  You will not work on homework or assignments from our MTH 111 course during our ALM 111B class.  We will have other work to be working on.

Technology

Class is held in an on-campus computer lab, so all technology you need will be available in the computer lab.

Course information and grades will be posted on D2L/Brightspace.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
