Details about this class
The textbook for both MCH120 and MCH130 is Mathematics for Machine Technology by Smith, published by Delmar, 8thEdition, ISBN-13: 978-1337798310
(Note: Students may use the 6th, 7th, or 8thedition of the text. A used copy of an older edition may be less expensive)
Class materials are distributed through D2L. There are three main modules: Geometry, Trigonometry, and Shop Applications. Each section has handouts and references to the appropriate chapters of the text. Each section has a practice exam and a final exam. Students may take the practice exams multiple times, each final may only be taken once. The grade will be the average of the finals.
While the materials can be done at home, students are encouraged to interact with the instructor after each practice exam. The instructor can provide individualized help with any problems and point out sections of the text that cover any areas the student needs to improve.
The 8th edition of the text is the current edition, but an older edition is perfectly acceptable. You may be able to save some money if you find a 6th or 7th edition online.
Technology
A basic scientific calculator with Trig functions will be needed.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
