Details about this class
Hello! This class will cover approximately 100 native plants focusing mainly on the native plants of the Willamette Valley. We will be in the field on campus every class meeting except when we are on 3 field trips. Field trips will include visits to a Oak woodland in Mosier and an old growth forest along the Salmon River south of Mt. Hood, a trip to learn about native plants in urban park and residential settings in Portland, and a trip to the Oregon coast.
Class participants will be graded on the creation of 100 plant I.D. data sheets, attendance, 3 field plant I.D. quizzes, a written midterm and a written final exam.
Additionally, although we may not be artists we will be spending time observing and drawing distinctive characteristics of our native plants so that we can better integrate visual information. Please plan on bringing your pencil and sketch notebook to every class session and dress appropriately for all weather.
