Hello!

My name is Chelle, pronounced "Shelly" and I’m so glad you’ve joined us for ENGR101 this term. This course is a fantastic dive into the world of engineering, blending hands-on labs with the problem-solving skills you'll use throughout your career. My goal is to ensure you feel supported and challenged as you begin this journey. I’m looking forward to a productive term and seeing all the great work you'll accomplish!"

Instructor: Chelle Guckenheimer  Format: Online (Scheduled Meeting Times) via Zoom Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays | 6:00 PM – 8:50 PM

Course Overview

This course balances academic theory with hands-on problem-solving. You will engage with the material through worksheets, assignments, labs, a midterm, and a final exam. All course materials, including virtual office hour schedules, are available on D2L.

Weekly Workflow
  • Lectures (Tuesday): The lecture portion of this course will take place synchronously, meaning we will have live Zoom sessions every Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:50 p.m. We will cover the lecture material, and then students will work on discussion worksheet problems.
    • Before Class: Review lecture slides/files on D2L.
    • During Class: Solve worksheet problems and ask questions.
    • After Class: Finish and submit homework & worksheets.

 

  • Lab (Thursday): The lab portion of this course will also be synchronous, with live Zoom sessions every Thursday from 6:00 to 8:50 p.m.
    • Before Class: Read through the lab instructions on D2L.
    • During Class: Follow procedures and work on deliverables.
    • After Class: Complete and submit your lab report.

 

Assignments & Exams

  • Submissions: All homework, worksheets, and lab reports must be submitted electronically via D2L.
  • Deadlines: Check D2L for all due dates. These may be adjusted during the term as needed.
  • Exams: There are two exams (midterm and final), both conducted online through D2L.

  • If you don’t already have one, I recommend getting a calculator that is approved for use on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam:  Casio: All fx-115 and fx-991 models    OR     Texas Instruments: All TI-30X and TI-36X models
  • Pencil, eraser, straight edge or ruler. 
  • Engineering paper - not needed week 1 & sold in PCC bookstores or online.
      • Engineering Computation Notepad, 8.5" x 11", Graph Ruled, Green tint, xxx Sheets/Pad, 5x5 grid scaled = 1”x1”
  • Google Drive - All Students already have a Google Drive with their @pcc.edu email account.
  • Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google CoLab - All Students already have these services with their @pcc.edu email account. 
  • Screen Capture Software - built into Windows and all major operating systems
  • Ability to scan or create PDF documents - typically a scan app on phone works well.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
