Details about this class

Advanced Fusion 360

How does this class meet?

The class is a blended-hybrid class, meaning it is In-Person, with Remote access, each night. We meet from 6pm - 8:20pm, Tuesday nights in-person on campus and also simulcast live via zoom.

  • Each week we meet together in person on campus, with the ability to join online via Zoom. Attendance guidelines:
    • If you are ill, join via Zoom.
    • If you are in another locale, join via Zoom.
    • If you are in Portland, join in-person on campus.
  • The sessions consist of lectures, hands on practice, Q and A, and discussions.
  • Outside of the weekly meeting, you are expected to study and practice using Fusion 360 by doing the lab assignments.
  • Saturdays is evaluation day, your lab assignments are due and feedback/guidance is given. Also, Saturday is when the fresh study material is assigned. Saturday is also office hours, from 9-10am via zoom.

Missing a class? Need to review the lecture? No problem, the sessions are recorded.

What should you do prior to class?

  • Login to MyPCC > D2L and engage in the discussion forum and read the pre-class study materials.
  • Find the Zoom links in D2L
  • Attend the optional pre-class meetup, via Zoom, usually the Saturday before the term starts. This optional meeting is to welcome you to class, get your license, and answer your questions. Of course it will be nice to get to know each other too! (this is also recorded for later viewing)

What kind of Fusion 360 license should you use for class?

You will need an education (student) license for Fusion 360 and to install Fusion 360. Beginning one week before class, and continuing until the first night, I will assign a Fusion 360 educational license to every student who enrolls, regardless if you do or don't already have an account. No worries, the system will work for you either way.

What if you already have a student license and Fusion 360 is already installed on your computer?

Do not get a new ID and do not install Fusion 360, you are ready to go. But please do read the rest of the information below.

What if you already have a license, but Fusion 360 is not installed on your computer?

If you already have an Autodesk Account, sign in and download your products.

  1. In the Autodesk email you receive when you're assigned to products, click the Sign In to Get Started button. Or, go directly to Autodesk Account at manage.autodesk.com and sign in.

Note: If you're prompted, set up 2-step verification or click Remind Me Later.

  2. Click Products and Services in the navigation bar.
  3. Locate your product and click Download Now or View Downloads.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to download Windows or Mac software.
  5. After you download the .exe or .dmg file, follow the onscreen instructions to install.

Installing Fusion 360

Install or update Fusion 360 prior to the first night of class.

What kind of email account can you use to communicate with the teacher after enrolling in the class?

A PCC provided email is the only acceptable form of communication once you are enrolled in the class. Federal privacy laws bar me from communicating with registered students outside of the PCC email system.

Please email phil.eichmiller@pcc.edu if you have questions.

Technology

What is Fusion 360?

System requirements for Autodesk Fusion 360

Operating System

CPU Type

  • x86-based 64-bit processor (e.g. Intel Core i, AMD Ryzen series), 4 cores, 1.7 GHz or greater; 32-bit not supported
  • ARM-based processors partially supported via Rosetta 2 only (for Apple computers only)

Memory: 4 GB of RAM (integrated graphics recommend 6 GB or more)

Graphics Card

  • Supported for DirectX 11 or greater
  • Dedicated GPU with 1 GB or more of VRAM
  • Integrated graphics with 6 GB or more of RAM

Disk Space: 3 GB of storage
Display Resolution: 1366 x 768 (1920 x 1080 or greater at 100% scale strongly recommended)
Internet: 2.5 Mbps or faster download; 500 Kbps or faster upload

Zoom: Install or update to the latest version of Zoom prior to class.

Helpful but not required: Microphone, a second monitor*. Camera is not required.

*Viewing the class zoom session over a mobile device such as a phone or tablet is not recommended. Most of the demonstrations include use of Fusion 360 and small screens are not suitable for this purpose.

**If at all possible, in addition to your primary monitor, it would be very helpful to have a second full size monitor. This will allow you to have the zoom session on one screen, and your own Fusion 360 session on another. Inexpensive used monitors are suitable for this purpose and well worth the investment. Free Geek and other resources such as Goodwill can provide an inexpensive solution.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
