Details about this class

This Practicum course requires an application. Please schedule an appointment with our ECE advisor to create an education plan and get an application doree.dennis@pcc.edu In this Practicum course you will complete 9 hours per week in your own community child care or in home center that follows the requirements of the Practicum application. This course has a co-requisite to ECE 130 B that requires the same application process and supporting documents. You will work with your Mentor Teacher that will observe and evaluate you throughout the term at your own worksite (classroom). There are weekly Module assignments that are due on Sunday (11:59pm).

This course focuses on reflection of you own practices through observation and assessment of children, their development and the classroom routines. We use observation, Mentor Teacher interviews, a developmental assessment, environmental checklist, Anti Bias checklist and the CLASS materials (required materials for ECE 130 B) to reflect upon our our weekly Module (assignments). I think you will learn that these are high quality teaching strategies that are effective with all types of learners. Across the 10 weeks of the term you will be able to observe, assess and reflect upon the theories and practices you are implementing in your classroom. You will also be planning for and implementing curriculum for the classroom as you lead for a total of 4 days throughout the term.
