Details about this class

This is a remote course that meets weekly on Thursday's in ZOOM form 5-6:50pm. This course has a co-requisite ( ECE 133 or ECE 131A) that requires an application process. The assignments (3 total) are due Sunday (11:59pm).

This course focuses on strategies, observation and assessment of children, their development and your interactions with them. We use developmental assessment tools and the CLASS materials (required textbooks) in our weekly CLASS Journal Reflections. We have 1 Topic Presentation that you will research using 1 of 2 scholarly websites form our field to then present to your colleagues. Lastly, you will be observed by your instructor with the CLASS Observation Tool at your Practicum site. Your instructor will then create a goal that you will work toward and reflect upon at the end of the term in your CLASS Results Narrative Self Evaluation. I think you will learn that these are high quality teaching strategies that are effective with all types of learners. Across the 10 weeks of the term you will be able to observe, assess and reflect upon the theories and practices you are implementing in our field.

Here are the books you will need to purchase:

  • American Psychology Association (2020). Concise Guide to APA Style (7th). Red Shelf.
  • Teachstone (2018). CLASS Dictionary/CLASS Strategy Card B-5 Bundle (V1.3). Teachstone Training LLC.

I look forward to learning alongside you!
