Business Design Series (BDS)
You probably already know how to "do the thing" (make the widgets, serve the food, etc.) Most people need help designing a business to wrap around the "thing". Take the first steps to turn your idea into a profitable business.
Discover the key aspects of building a business so you can develop a working plan that will become the foundational piece for meeting with an SBDC Advisor. Begin with a series of self-assessments to help determine your level of comfort and competence in 20 critical business focus areas. Continue with instruction, in class activities, articles and worksheets that provide tools to address the 4 basic challenge areas to every business: an attractive Business Concept, strong Organizational Structure, lasting Customer Relations and profitable Business Operations.
In 4 weeks students will be able to:
-Select a business entity and start a business
-Utilize the Customer Relationship Arc model to design a successful business
-Clarify an idea to determine the viability of the business
-Identify key customers and develop a Customer Persona
-Design a revenue model to meet the needs of key customers
-Create an effective Elevator Pitch
-Explore 21.5 questions every business owner must answer before starting a business
-Determine start up costs and create a basic budget Create and action plan with key milestones

- In-person: classes take place at specific times and locations. Attendance in person is required.
- Online: classes do not have meeting times. Regular online interaction is required and there are weekly assignments.
- Remote: classes take place at specific times online. Students must be logged in during class meeting times.
- In-person and remote: classes meet both in-person and remotely. Attendance at both is required.
- In-person and online: classes meet in-person with additional online activities required.
- Remote and online: classes meet remotely with additional online activities required.
