Details about this class

This class will be held in person with some time dedicated to lecture/discussion and a majority of time focused on a hands-on lab component. Students will apply technologies that have gained wide use in the biotech setting, including PCR, genetic libraries, DNA sequencing, bioinformatics, and modern recombinant DNA assembly techniques.

Electronic Devices: No additional purchased equipment is required; however, having a way to take notes (either on paper or on a device) and an internet-accessible device will be helpful during class sessions.

Asynchronous Work: Class sessions are in person unless otherwise noted. Most activities for this class will be performed with the rest of the students during the scheduled meeting times. Additional time to complete tasks, if needed, will be available during scheduled "Open Lab" times. Completion of preparatory reading or assigned projects will on some occasions require additional personal time spent outside of scheduled class sessions.

Flexibility: Success in BIT courses is highly reliant on interaction with instructors and classmates as well as hands-on experience with techniques and equipment used in the biotech setting. To achieve proper training, students are expected to attend every class session in person. That said, it is understandable when other obligations come up. Please let your instructor know if there is a class session that you will miss or be late for as soon as you can. Timely communication often makes it possible to make up missed work and stay up-to-date on class material.

Technology

There is no additional technology required for this class.
