Details about this class
The focus of this class will be on learning to ID the most common birds in our area, and to learn about their behaviors and adaptations to life on the wing. The "lab" portion of this class will be spent outdoors at various parks and natural areas around Portland. Each week we will visit a different area, including Oaks Bottom, Mt. Tabor Park, Powell Butte, Smith and Bybee lakes, and other areas. We will do some walking at a slow pace and I will make this class accessible to everyone, including visually-impaired and hearing-impaired folks. There are many different ways to experience the joys of birding. No equipment needed- we have binoculars for everyone.
There is no required textbook, but you will need a bird ID guide. If you already have one, don't buy another- otherwise check the link to textbooks to see the one I recommend, called "Birds of Oregon" by Lone Pine press.
Technology
There is no additional technology required for this class.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
