Details about this class
Welcome to BA 295: Management Capstone, the final course in the Management AAS sequence. This class is designed as a true capstone, meaning we won’t be “learning new chapters.” Instead, you’ll demonstrate what you’ve already learned by analyzing real management situations and producing professional, executive-ready recommendations.
Here’s how the course works: we meet remotely on Zoom each Monday morning for an interactive, working-session style class. Each week you’ll submit a short, de-identified workplace case (due Sunday night), and in class we’ll use one or two selected cases for team problem-solving and decision-making. At the same time, you’ll work in a small team on a capstone consulting-style project that applies core management skills across Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling, plus the legal, ethical, and economic realities managers face. Many of you will also connect your work to CliftonStrengths and EQ (Emotional Intelligence) to strengthen how you lead, communicate, and coach.
This is a remote course with required live participation. Camera use is required during Zoom sessions, and class recordings follow PCC and instructor policy for privacy and appropriate use. Most work is completed through D2L outside of class, with clear weekly checkpoints to keep your team moving.
A bit about me: I’m Dr. Michael Hohn. Before moving into higher education, I spent over 30 years in private industry in management and leadership roles, so this course is grounded in what managers actually deal with: unclear goals, competing priorities, team dynamics, performance issues, and real constraints. I teach from a strengths-based perspective, and I’ll push you to be clear, practical, and professional while also helping you build confidence in the management skills you’ve earned. I’m looking forward to working with you as you finish strong and step into the next phase of your career.
Technology
I would like to highlight the importance of ensuring that your technology setup meets the specified requirements outlined in the Online Learning Technical Requirements. While no special technology beyond those listed is required, proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, is crucial for active participation in various assignments and projects.
Furthermore, it is imperative to have Adobe Reader installed on your device, as it will be utilized for reviewing and accessing specific course materials. This step is essential to ensure that you can fully engage with the content and make the most of the learning experience.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
