Details about this class

What is the difference between Advertising, Marketing,

Marketing Communications, and Promotion?

Take BA-239 and find out!

This is an “Online (Scheduled Meetings)” class. It will be held, online, in D2L each Tuesday and Thursday during Spring Term, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 2:20 pm. You will be expected to attend each class and attendance will be taken. Classes start on Tuesday, March 31. Final Examinations are in the week of June 8. Classes will be conducted using “Zoom”, in D2L, with “live” discussions of the assigned reading material, assignments, Quizzes, Polls, and videos.

To get started, you will need to read the textbook “M: Advertising”, by Weigold and Arens, 2024 Release, McGraw Hill. The chapters are shown, by week, in the Syllabus and in D2L. Print or Digital versions are acceptable. Before the class on April 2, please read Chapter Three.

I suggest you do the following when D2L opens. In “Content”, read all of the four parts of “Getting Started”. You can access each class in “Zoom”.  I will discuss each chapter during scheduled classes which will be saved in D2L. The saved versions will be in Zoom, under “Cloud Recordings”. Help for you to listen and view information is in “Getting Started”.

Also, in D2L, click on “Content”, and read the information in “Course Syllabus” and “Course Introductions”. The rest of the course is set up by week. You can open the “Week of March 30” and review the section. To enter the class, go to “Zoom”, “Upcoming Meetings”. The class of Tuesday, March 31 is shown under “Start Times”. Cloud (class) Recordings are also in Zoom.

Grading is based on the following criteria: Homework (worth 20%), Quizzes/Attendance/Poll Participation (worth 20%), Mid-Term and Final Examination (worth 20% each), Advertising Plan Project to launch a new product or service or launch a new company (worth 20%), with help from, “How to Write Your Advertising Plan” (posted in “Content”).

On March 31 I will cover the course introduction slides and discuss the Student Introduction that you will complete and post on D2L for my viewing only. For April 2, read Chapter Three before the class. Your first Quiz (multiple-choice) will be from Chapter Three.

On April 2 there will be a short, multiple-choice quiz (two attempts) from Chapter Three at the start of class. The quiz opens at 1:00 pm. The quiz will only be open for five minutes. The quiz will be graded and count for attendance. (Poll participation will also count for attendance.) After the quiz I will discuss Chapter Three online in Zoom. Go to “Coursework” then Quizzes” for Quizzes and Examinations. “Assignments” are also under “Coursework”.

For your maximum benefit of the course, you need to attend online as you would attend in a classroom on campus. For BA-239 (20125) this Term, this means from 1:00 pm to 2:20 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Attendance is discussed in detail on pages two and three of the Syllabus. Let me know if you want to see the Syllabus before the Term begins. I look forward to you joining my class.  Contact me at john.eichenberger@pcc.edu. After the Term begins, you can request a private Zoom meeting with me. I can also discuss class questions via cell phone.
