Thank you for your interesting in ART272/275 Printmaking | Screenprinting. I look forward to working with you and making some cool prints and discoveries about screenprinting.

This class will be held in person, on campus twice a week for a total of six hours. We will spend most of our time doing hands-on work in the printshop. I foster a safe community of creators through participation and engagement during class time. Demonstrations are studio specific and often take multiple steps in an extended period of time. Attendance is mandatory in this class. Up to two absences are allowed for the term. Any further absences will result in an automatic re-take of the course.

There is no textbook for this course, but you will need some supplies. You can purchase the kit from the Cascade PCC bookstore — currently open Monday through Thursday, 8am-4pm and Fridays 8am-2pm. Online order customer service: Monday – Friday, 8am-2pm - 971-722-4910.

Course Description: ART272 - Covers introductory level screenprinting processes, techniques and concepts while addressing historical and contemporary issues. Introduces the creative problem-solving and critical skills necessary to examine aesthetic and formal solutions and explore artistic intent through the medium of screenprinting. Course Description:ART 275 - Covers intermediate printmaking processes, techniques and concepts while addressing historical and contemporary issues in screenprinting. Introduces the creative problem-solving and critical skills necessary to examine aesthetic and formal solutions, and to explore artistic intent through print media. This is the second course in a sequence that includes ART 272 or ART 273 or ART 274. Prerequisites: ART 272 or ART 273 or ART 274. Recommended: ART 115, ART 116, and ART 131. Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Solve problems in the art making process using a variety of strategies for making screenprints, which demonstrate command of introductory/intermediate level processes, techniques and materials.
  • Participate in a critical dialogue about ideas and issues in screenprinting using industry terminology and applying self-critiquing skills.
  • Interpret and critically evaluate prints from different cultures to initiate a life-long process of studying the diverse perspectives of the human experience.
  • Express connections to personal experiences through work in the medium of screenprinting with awareness of the standards and practices established by both contemporary and historical artists.
