Details about this class

Learn about color and the way painting can open our eyes to the amazing world around us!

No experience in painting is necessary for this class! We will begin with some fun introductory color combining and mixing exercises that are so helpful for beginning and experienced students alike! We will then work on a series of assignments designed to explore different ideas and the many ways that paint and color is used to create worlds of light, color and the illusion of three dimensional space. Along the way, we will look at the work of contemporary and historical masters from around the world for inspiration that can guide us in different approaches to painting, and regularly view some short videos about artists and their practices - almost like having an invitation into their actual studios! Demos accompany each assignment.

When we trust our perceptions it can be magical how things come together!

Class will meet in person at PCC's Rock Creek Campus. Class will feature demonstrations, discussions, and open lab painting time with instructor feedback.

All Materials needed for the class are available as a kit that will be available from the bookstore or you can use acrylic or oil paint supplies purchased separately or that you may already have. A list of materials will be presented on D2L and sent out to students prior to the start of class. Students will not need materials for the first day of class.
