Details about this class

Color Theory Foundations focuses on the terminology within color theory and ways in which it is and can be applied into all media of art. This course includes assignments that take the theories and vocabulary of color design and allows the student to physically apply them with gouache paint. This course will focus on both the RYB (red, yellow, blue) model of the color wheel as well as the CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) model of the color wheel, and apply theory and language within each model. If you are someone who has never worked with paint, there will be in-person demonstrations that coincide with each assignment to help students navigate their materials. No prior skills required.

This course is a an in-person class. All presentations for assignments will be presented in person and uploaded to D2L, and all demonstrations will be done in person. Up to three absences are allotted for the term, and once the 4th absence has been counted, it is an automatic re-take of the course.

Attached is a syllabus from Winter 2024 and a materials list for students to get a sense of the course. Supply kits are available for this course at the PCC Bookstore and can be purchased online or picked up in person, but limited in stock so please order at your earliest convenience. Once kits have been purchased online, they will ship within three business days via UPS.

Technology

We will briefly work with Adobe Photoshop as a tool in completing the final assignment. Each student will be provided free access to the Adobe Suite as PCC students. A demonstration video and in person assistance will be provided to all students, regardless of skill level.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
