Details about this class
This is WR242/245 Poetry: Identity, Resistance, and Culture. We meet twice a week at the Rock Creek Campus, and attendance is mandatory. For more details, see my course flyer HERE.
In this class, we read, annotate, and discuss poetry. We study materials that introduce a range of poetic forms and explore literary language. I provide all historical, cultural, and material context through lecture and discussion. By the end of the term, you will complete a portfolio of eight original poems and a final project that invites you to explore a published poetry collection and a poet who works in community.
Our in‑person meetings also give us space to create poetry‑based art projects and participate in full workshop sessions, where you can develop your craft, receive feedback, and build community with your classmates.
Technology
All readings and course materials are found on D2L.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
