Details about this class

This section of Writing 121Z offers a “softer start” and is designed to boost your confidence and help you complete WR 121Z in a single term. It means that you will register for both WR 121Z (CRN 43987) and WR 121Q (CRN 46006) for a total of 5 credits. WR 121Q (formerly WR 199B) is a support lab designed to help you succeed in WR 121Z.

You are likely to benefit from taking Writing 121Z + WR 121Q (the support lab) if:

  • you are comfortable writing but want reading support
  • you are a confident reader but want writing support
  • you benefit from working alongside others in real time
  • you want help learning to use technology and utilize campus resources
  • you may be less comfortable advocating for yourself in a standalone WR 121Z course
  • you would appreciate some of the supports of Reading and Writing 115 as you complete Writing 121Z

The support lab doesn’t require any homework. Instead, it is a time for you to work with a smaller group of students and me to understand the course material and troubleshoot issues you may face completing your reading or writing assignments, whether that’s planning, “writer’s block”, figuring out how to work with technology for the class, or just needing designated time and space to complete assignments. 

Note: If you are looking to only enroll in WR 121Z without the support lab, you can enroll in CRN 41473.

Technology

This course requires the following technology requirements:

  • Laptop (Windows or Macbook) with a working microphone, video camera, and speakers, as well as the room to install additional software and download course materials.
  • A smartphone with a working microphone, video camera, and speakers, as well as the room to install additional software and download course materials.
  • Audio-editing software (free options will be presented during class).
  • PDF reader.
  • Headphones that work with your laptop and smartphone.
  • Reliable, consistent, and fast wifi – preferably what’s called (2×2). Try this wifi speed test to test your connection.
  • An internet browser installed on your computer. If you are not using one already, we recommend that you download one of the recommended browsers. Multimedia plug-ins may be required to allow your browser to access online video or interactive features in D2L and PCC third-party apps.
  • Google Drive apps (free via PCC): Docs, Sheets, Forms, Meets, etc.
  • Zoom (free via PCC).

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
