Details about this class
Greetings!
This Ethics class is designed as a discussion course. Its purpose is twofold: 1) to introduce the student to reading some major philosophical thinkers and their ideas on morality and the nature of the good life; and 2) to give each student the opportunity for some guided reflection, writing and discussion of their own on ethical ideas and their application to issues in contemporary culture. The course will include a number of specific activities designed to realize these goals, including reading philosophical texts, writing discussion posts and replies to classmates, identifying and summarizing ethical issues in contemporary culture, participating in class discussions, and preparing a final project presentation at the end of the term.
We will make an effort to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a partner in many of our activities, with the understanding that AI will always only assist, never replace, individual effort in reading, reflecting, writing, discussion and presentation.
There will be no textbook required for our class. Readings will be provided by way of links to websites, or documents in other ways included in the class.
