Details about this class

Hi! Welcome to Math 60

I’m looking forward to meeting you on the first day of class.

This is an in-person class. We will be covering a lot of material each class, so attendance is very important if you want to succeed.

Math 60 is the first term of a two-term algebra sequence. Before taking this class, you should have a solid knowledge of basic math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers WITHOUT A CALCULATOR. If necessary, please work on this before class starts.

We will be using materials that are available for free online. You can look at the text anytime. There is an appendix that covers basic math concepts if you want to review before class starts.

In general, we will not be using calculators in class except for story problems. A basic calculator will be adequate. Calculators will not be allowed for exams.

You should be able to access DESMOS during class. We will be using DESMOS for graphing.

The class will be roughly half group work and half lecture. Homework will be due each class.

This class is being taught at a college level. I’m here to guide you. It is your responsibility to come to class, understand the material, and ask questions if you don’t understand something.

See you soon.

Lisa
