Details about this class
Hello! This is an in-person class that meets twice per week. This section is for students who do not meet the prerequisite requirements: completion of, or placement into, MTH 95 or MTH 98. If you register for this section, you must also register for MTH 105Q CRN 44928. (If you do meet the prerequisite requirements, you can register for MTH 105Z CRN 44927 instead. Both of these sections of 105Z are commingled: the 45229 group of students will have 105Q from 11:30-12:20, then the 44927 group will join them from 12:30-2:50. Confused yet?)
Math in Society looks at applied, real-world math and tools that you can use to make quantitative decisions in your life. My goal is to make math fun, relevant, and interesting. Class sessions will include a mix of whole-group instruction and collaborative small-group work.
This is my first time teaching Math 105 at PCC (don't worry, I've taught it at Clackamas CC and Klamath CC) and I haven't yet decided every detail of the schedule, grading scheme, etc. Everything will work out all right, but I can't answer specific questions at this point.
See https://www.pcc.edu/staff/morgan-chase/ for more information about me and how I operate.
Technology
The online homework will be accessed through our D2L shell, so you'll need to have access to a computer either at home or at a computer lab on campus.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
