Details about this class
This in-person Math In Society is a flipped class. That means that the lecture and introductory learning takes place outside of the classroom. The more difficult problem-solving work takes place in class, where you have the guidance and help of classmates and the instructor. There will also be online homework problems to enhance your learning.
Research shows that students gain a much better understanding by doing math, discussing, and teaching others. So this is what we will spend our valuable class time on. This means that you will need to come to class prepared to work with a small group of your classmates.
You will get a class prep assignment for almost every class meeting. It will be a combination of watching videos, researching online, and making notes that will be checked at the very beginning of the next class period. These activities are carefully designed to prepare you for the collaborative learning that takes place in class.
Technology
We will be using Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
