Hello there,
Welcome to ESOL 40/40N Level 4 Reading! I'm looking forward to meeting you and working with you on elements to improve your vocabulary and reading skills!
You will need an overall grade of 80% to pass this class.
The textbook for this class is Get Ready To Read (ISBN: 978-0-13-177648-7) by Karen Blanchard/Christine Root. This book is available in the PCC bookstores and on Amazon.
The novel for our class is Marley and Me (Pearson English Readers, ISBN: 978-1-4082-6376-1). This book is available only online, for example, on Amazon.
You can print free copies of the materials we will be using (100 double-sided pages per term for free) at any PCC library or computer lab .
We will meet on Zoom for this class. Regular attendance and active participation are expected if you want to be successful in this class.
I will email you the Zoom link 2 days before the first class to your PCC email. You can also find the Zoom link on D2L in the Zoom tab.
Technology
This is a remote class, so you will need to use Zoom video chat. Also, it will be very difficult to only use a phone for this class; I highly recommend using a computer/laptop with a keyboard. We will use D2L Brightspace, Google Docs, and PCC email for homework and communication.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
