Details about this class
Welcome to Prep Chem! I think this class is tons of fun and hope you will too. I am a strong believer that all students come into my classroom with knowledge that prepares them for class and as a community we discover how that knowledge relates to the course material. Strong classroom community is very important to me. This means that class is participatory even in lectures.
The course lecture and lab will be delivered in person on campus at the Cascade Campus in North Portland. There are no makeup labs for this course. Students will work in pairs during the lab and share materials.
Student's will be expected to attend a 3 hour lab in person each week and two 2-hour lectures each week. The course content will be delivered in an week-by-week module approach. Each week's content will be contained within a separate module that includes: lecture activities, pre-recorded video lectures, laboratory assignments, homework, quiz and an additional activities. The instructor office hours during the week to support students.
Students do not need to purchase a textbook for this course. Safety goggles are also required and are available to borrow in the laboratory (they are sanitized between lab periods). If students do not wish to buy their own these are also available in the bookstore.
The final exam will be IN-PERSON on Wednesday December 10th, 2:00pm-3:50pm. Please plan accordingly.
All other exams will be given in-person usually during the Monday class meeting. (specific dates will be available in the course syllabus at the start of the term).
Technology
Course material will be provided on D2L and online homework is required, therefore an internet connection is required. A webcam is not required.
The course will be using an OER textbook and WeBWorK homework. No purchase of these is necessary. These will be freely provided to all students. An internet connection and computer will be required.
