Details about this class
Welcome all!
Thanks for your interest and registration in CCET 100 Civil Engineering Construction Overview! I'm excited for you to be in this class in the Fall. As a student in the Civil and Construction Engineering Technology (CCET) program, you will learn how to be an integral team member to build safe roads, better structures, and provide clean water to create a better future for your community!
If you haven't registered for CCET 110 Plan Reading, I would highly recommend taking this class at the same time as CCET 100. As is shown in the Advising Guide [pdf] for the CCET Associate's Degree, CCET 110 Plan Reading will keep you on track to graduate from the CCET program with an Associate's Degree in June 2027. It will also help to contextualize information that you will be learning about in CCET 100.
Just to be sure, I also wanted to mention that if you are pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, you need to take ENGR courses, not CCET courses. The CCET program is algebra based and does not require calculus courses. Consequently, CCET courses do NOT transfer to the Bachelor degree ENGR program. The ENGR transfer degree and the Civil Engineering Bachelor degree require calculus courses.
The CCET tract is very efficient and effective in getting you into the Civil and Construction Engineering workforce as an engineering technician - one who supports the engineer. CCET students who wanted and actively sought an internship this summer between their 1st and 2nd years have an internship and we have many employees who are seeking CCET graduates.
The course information of the syllabus provides additional details on the CCET 100 course, such as the textbook and other supplies needed. Please note, this syllabus is based on the previous year and is subject to change for this year.
You’re welcome to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting you September 22.
Best,
Leanne Redlinger
Technology
Use of a computer is required for this course to access course content, complete course work, and submit work for evaluation. D2L Brightspace is used for assignment submission as well as completion of discussion and quizzes.
In addition, the CCET program aims to prepare graduate for workforce ready with experience in the following industry used software:
-
Excel (expectation is that students have previous experience in this software)
-
Bluebeam (not in this course, but will be taught in the CCET program)
-
AutoCAD (possibly in this course and will be taught in the CCET program)
-
Civil 3D (not in this course, but will be in the program)
The computers in the Engineering Lab (AM 103) have access to all above software programs. If you would like access to the software during your time at PCC, your student status will grant you free access to the following software. Follow the instructions in the attached link to gain your free access!
***PLEASE NOTE for personal computers***
Due to the frequent use of AutoDesk program, AutoCAD or Civil 3D assignments can only be completed using a Windows based computer. If you are considering the purchase of a laptop for this program, please consider these System requirements for Civil3D prior to your purchase.
The instructions below allow you access to the above software on your personal computer:
-
AutoCAD & Civil 3D
-
Create an account at AutoDesk to allow download of any AutoDesk software. This includes AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit - three major drawing software packages used in the Civil Engineering Industry.

Bluebeam software
-
Request an educational license with Bluebeam and download the software: https://www.bluebeam.com/community/academic/
-
They require information to verify your educational role and standing at the college. It may take a few days to get approved and then a few more days to receive the access to download.
-
Excel
-
Microsoft Office 365 [Available to PCC Students].
Place to save electronic files
-
Flash drive is more efficient when accessing AutoCAD files
-
Google drive
