Hello! Thank you for your interest in BI 231 - Human Anatomy & Physiology I

This course examines the structure and function of the human body through a body systems approach. We will explore anatomy and physiology of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems at the relevant levels of biological organization (chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, and organ system). We will also cover neurophysiology and excitable membranes. 

Here is some information about the upcoming course:

This class will have two weekly meetings:

• Lab meets Tuesdays from 10:00 AM- 12:50 PM in JH 219. 
• Lecture meets on Thursdays from 10:00 AM- 12:50 PM in TEB 220. 

This is a flipped model hybrid course.  Each week, there will be pre-recorded student-guided lessons with embedded HTML5 package interactives for pre-lecture homework, multiple-attempt pre-lab homework assignments, and lab quizzes.  Lecture meetings are devoted to active learning, problem-solving, and assessments. 

PLEASE NOTE, regarding required textbooks:  

• The 10th edition of "Anatomy & Physiology: Form and Function" by Kenneth Saladin, McGraw-Hill, is OPTIONAL. Students may use any reputable college-level Anatomy & Physiology textbook that covers the course learning outcomes.  I curate open educational resources aligned with the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society learning outcomes, post the content on webpages, and create interactives to ensure alignment with the Society's learning outcomes.
•  The BI 231 Lab Success Guide has a free, fillable version with a drawing pad in our D2L Brightspace course shell, so you do not need to purchase the one from the bookstore.
