Details about this class

Thank you for your interest in this class. Here are some things you may want to know before signing up:

This course will be taught in-person on the PCC Cascade campus. Note that this course has both a lecture and a lab that you must attend. Please check the day, time, and location for attending class and make sure that it fits into your schedule.

Textbook: The course lectures use images from multiple different sources, slides are available before the class meeting if you wish to us them to follow along. The official text is: Openstax Biology 2nd edition – this is a free online text. Almost any college level biology text published in the last 5-10 years will work though and many inexpensive texts are available for purchase if you wish to have a physical text (the bookstore may have some physical copies of the Openstax text but these may be more expensive than older editions of different texts).

Lab Manual: This class uses a self-published lab manual.  You will need to purchase the lab manual at the Cascade Book Store "CASCADE BIOLOGY 112 LAB MANUAL". Do not purchase the lab manual from another location since other campuses use different labs!

Lecture: I use a “traditional” PowerPoint style of lecturing broken up with in class work that is collected. Each week there is usually something collected for attendance and an online quiz to help you stay on top of the material. Additionally, there are both in class and take home portions for both the 1 midterm and the final exam.

Lab: Each week during the term the lab meets there will be lab activities and turned in work that may include online and/or in person quizzes, collected lab activities, and lab projects. Attendance in the lab is crucial for your success.
