Details about this class

  • All class meetings (except exam days) will be conducted remotely through Zoom on the days and times listed above. Students are expected to attend all class meetings. Attendance will be taken after every class. Students who miss more than half of a class meeting are considered to have "missed" that class. Students who have good attendance will receive a 1% final grade boost. Students who have 2 or more unexcused absences do not receive this boost.
  • Exam Dates: Exam 1 is on Wed. May. 1. Exam 2 is on Wed. May. 22. And the Final Exam (Part 2) is on Wed. Jun. 12. The on-campus location and times of the exams will be disclosed on the first day of class.
  • Class meetings will consist of two halves: a lecture portion and a lab portion. There will usually be a 10-15 minute break between the lecture and lab portion. The labs will general consist of written or informal group work and homework assistance.
  • Lectures notes will be recorded and stored on the D2L course website. Lectures (audio and visual) will also be recorded and stored through Zoom's cloud service, which is accessed through the D2L course website.
  • Grades are determined by the following categories: written homework, online homework, formal labs, and exams. Details about each category can be found in the syllabus for this course.

You can get a more detailed idea of how the course is structured by reviewing the MTH 261 Sample Syllabus & Schedule (Remote) document.

Please don't hesitate to email me at ian.nicolas@pcc.edu if you have any questions about the class. I'm very good with emails and I can reply to you relatively quickly!

Technology

  • A laptop or desktop computer is required for basic access to the Zoom class meetings and D2L. You can also rent a Chromebook (and other equipment) through the PCC Library Equipment Checkout webpage.
  • Students are expected to have access to a scanning device for the purpose of submitting written assignments online. Any smartphone with an appropriate scanning app is sufficient. Adobe Scan is the recommended scanning app to use for this course. Alternatively, students may typeset "written" work with Google Docs, LaTeX, or Microsoft Word. Or, you may "digitally annotate" your work through a tablet device.
  • Students are required to have access to a scientific/graphing calculator and matrix calculator. It is recommended to use the free graphing and matrix online calculator, GeoGebra, which is also available to download as a smartphone app. You are not required to purchase another calculator if you chose to use GeoGebra.

Also, it is recommended for students to have a dedicated class notebook/journal to write down notes during lectures and lab. Students may use any amount of handwritten notes during each exam, including the final exam.
