Full-time and part-time programs

Full-time Program

  • Nine month certificate program, 3 terms (Fall, Winter, Spring)
  • Full Time, in-person 40+ hours per week
  • 45 Students accepted
Selection process
  • When more than 45 applicants apply, selection is by lottery. Only applicants complete with all prerequisites by the end of Spring Term will be considered.
  • Accepted students must:
    • attend an orientation in August
    • pass a criminal background check and drug test
    • complete CPR for healthcare providers and required immunizations
Timeline
  • Early October: Application opens
  • July 1, 5pm: Application deadline
  • Mid-July: Lottery (if applicable)
  • End of July: Notification of invitation via PCC email address
  • Early August: Mandatory Orientation immunizations, background check, drug test
  • September: Full time classes begin in Fall term
Specifics
  • Cost: $8,485
  • Full-Time program has a separate online application
  • One-year certificate program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
  • When all course requirements are complete with a C grade or higher, students are eligible to graduate with a Certificate in Dental Assisting from PCC and Oregon Certification in Expanded Functions. Students are also prepared for the Dental Assisting National Board Exam (DANB).

Part-time Program

  • One year Certificate program, 5 terms (Spring 2022, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring 2023)
  • Online lectures and In-person clinics: A few full-day Monday labs and some half-day Saturdays
  • 18 Students accepted
Selection process
  • When more than 18 applicants apply, selection is by lottery. Only applicants complete with all prerequisites by the end of Winter Term, 2022 will be considered
  • Accepted students must
    • attend an orientation in late February
    • pass a criminal background check and drug test
    • complete CPR for healthcare providers and required immunizations
Timeline
  • August 5, 2021: Application opens
  • August 5, 2021: Scholarship application opens: apply for the scholarship
  • December 15, 2021, 5pm: Application deadline
  • January 1, 2022: Notification of invitation via PCC email address
  • Late-February, 2022: Mandatory Orientation, proof of immunization, background check and drug test completion
  • April 4, 2022: Program begins in Spring term 2022 (completes Spring 2023)

    • Term 1 (9-13 credits) Sterilization Assistant
    • Term 2 (9 credits) Radiography Proficiency
    • Term 3 (10 credits) General Chairside Assisting
    • ┬áTerm 4 (9 credits) General Chairside Assisting
    • Term 5 (8 credits) Expanded Functions (EFDA)
  • At the end of most terms, students will take the area certification exam and be eligible for a DA position in with increasing responsibilities and pay.
