Building Skills. Strengthening Businesses. Growing Hillsboro’s Workforce.
What happens when local businesses invest in their employees? Workers gain new skills, companies become stronger, and communities benefit from a more prepared and adaptable workforce.
In 2026, Portland Community College Professional Development & Training (PDT) partnered with the City of Hillsboro and three local employers—CoorsTek, DentalEZ and Genentech—to make that investment possible. Through the City’s Customized Incumbent Worker Training (CIWT) Reimbursement Program, PCC delivered customized training designed around the real-world needs of Hillsboro businesses and their employees.
At CoorsTek, 32 employees participated in trainings ranging from Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programming and Geometric Dimensioning andTolerancing (GD&T) to Leadership Development. The programs strengthened both technical expertise and leadership skills, helping employees apply new knowledge directly to their work. The partnership will continue in 2026–27 with Technical Writing, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and additional maintenance technology training.
DentalEZ employees built skills across a broad range of areas, participating in Lean Process Improvement, Leadership Development, Microsoft Excel, and Resume & Interview Skills training. From improving workplace efficiency to strengthening communication and career planning, the training supported employees at multiple stages of their careers.
At Genentech, PDT is helping experienced Mechanical Technicians prepare for the next step in their careers through Electro-Mechanical Engineering Specialist Training. The program focuses on mechatronics, industrial electrical systems, sensors, controls, and integrated troubleshooting—all tailored to the needs of a regulated bio-manufacturing environment. A second cohort will begin in September 2026.
Together, these partnerships show the impact of investing in incumbent workers. With support from the City of Hillsboro, PCC is helping local employers develop talent from within, giving employees opportunities to expand their skills and advance their careers while strengthening the region’s workforce.
PCC Professional Development & Training is proud to partner with the City of Hillsboro and local businesses to create workforce development opportunities that benefit employees, employers, and the broader community.
