Link a D2L activity to a grade item

D2L Brightspace course activity, such as Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes do not automatically have a grade item created and connected to it. You have an option to link them to a grade item if you want to use the grades tool. If not, you can still grade each activity within the tool itself without having it connected to the grades tool.

  • What is required: A D2L Brightspace course and a course activity (Assignments, Discussions, or Quizzes) ready to be linked to a grade item

Link an assignment to a grade item

Steps
  1. Click on the Assignments link from the course Navbar
  2. Click on the action menu action menu icon of the assignment you want to attach a grade item to and choose Edit Assignment
  3. On the Edit Assignment page, under the Assignment title, in the Grade Out Of section, click the Ungraded box to expand Grade options
  4. Click the Grade Book drop-down menu and select “Edit or Link to Existing”
  5. In the pop up window, select Link to Existing and select the Grade Item
  6. Click Ok to close the pop up, then Save or Save and Close if you are done editing the Assignment

Link a discussion to a grade item

Steps
  1. Click on the Discussions link from the course navbar
  2. Click on the drop-down menu of the discussion topic you want to attach a grade item to and choose Edit Topic
  3. In the Grade Out Of area, click Ungraded and enter a point value in the field provided to create a grade item for the activity.
    • Optional: Click the In Grade Book option and select Edit or Link to Existing to add/change a grade item or Reset to Ungraded to remove it.
  4. Click the Save and Close button.

Link a quiz to a grade item

Steps
  1. Click on the Quizzes link from the course navbar
  2. Click on the drop-down menu of the quiz you want to attach a grade item to and choose Edit
  3. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Not in Grade Book,
    • Select Edit or Link to Existing if the grade item has already been created
    • If a grade item has not been created, click Add to Grade Book
  4. Click the Save and Close button
