The Soul District Business Association (SDBA) invites the community to the 14th Annual MLK Dream Run Weekend Celebration, happening Sept. 20–21 at Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus.

This year’s theme, “Strengthening Our Communities,” echoes Dr. King’s belief in our shared humanity: “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” The Dream Run brings this vision to life by uniting neighbors, businesses, and changemakers in action.

“We are proud to partner with the Soul District Business Association to host the MLK Dream Run in support of small businesses and youth entrepreneurship,” said PCC President Dr. Adrien Bennings. “At PCC, we’re deeply committed to educating the next generation of change-makers and fostering partnerships that uplift our community.”

On Saturday, Sept. 20 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), the kickoff celebration features pre-race registration, a free kids’ race, live entertainment, and the vibrant Soulful Vendor Village. Attendees can also explore wellness activities, small business and workforce resources, Nike’s Shakeout Run, an EV Ride & Drive, and giveaways—including a round-trip ticket from Alaska Airlines.

On Sunday, Sept. 21 (7 a.m. to noon), runners take to the streets for USATF-sanctioned 5K, 10K, and 15K Geoff Hollister Tribute Races. Finishers will enjoy swag bags, refreshments, and chances to win local prizes and airfare.

“Strengthening our communities isn’t just a theme—it’s a mandate,” said John Washington, SDBA Executive Director.
