PCC to co-sponsor presentation by Rami George Khouri

The “Arab Spring” continues, creating a ripple effect – with tidal wave strength – throughout the Middle East. On Thursday, Oct. 20, Portlanders will get the chance to better understand the complexity and impact of current events with the help of award-winning scholar and journalist Rami George Khouri, who will deliver the talk, “Diplomatic Stalemate and Democratic Revolts: Making Sense of a Middle East in Transition.”
PCC is co-sponsoring a presentation about changing dynamics in the Middle East given by Rami G. Khouri on Oct. 20.
The presentation will take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church (1624 NE Hancock, Portland, 97212). A reception kicks off at 6 p.m., followed by the talk at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking; wheelchair-accessible.
Khouri is the director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut. A syndicated columnist and author – and the editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star — he is regularly interviewed about Middle East politics by the BBC, NPR, and other global media outlets.
Khouri, a Palestinian-Jordanian and U.S. citizen whose family resides in Beirut, Amman and Nazareth, is a former visiting scholar at Stanford University. He was the co-recipient of the 2006 Pax Christi International Peace Award for his efforts to bring peace and reconciliation to the Middle East. The presentation is hosted by the Institute for Christian-Muslim Understanding. Co-sponsors include the Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon, Portland Community College’s Internationalization Initiative, Portland State University’s Middle East Studies Center and Center for Turkish Studies, and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
