Rock Creek Volunteer Fair promotes service in community

The Portland Community College Rock Creek Multicultural Center and Equity Ambassadors will host a Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Feb. 22-23, at the Building 3 mall. The purpose of the volunteer fair is to introduce PCC students, high school students, senior citizens, and community members to local service opportunities. This event is free and open to the public.
Non-profit organizations that will have tables at the fair include Hillsboro Parks & Recreation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Portland Alliance, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Oregon Food Bank’s Nutrition Education Program, and OHSU. Fair attendees can talk with representatives of these organizations, determine which organization is a good fit for them, and sign up to do service.
The PCC Rock Creek Multicultural Student Program supports students of color in an environment that nurtures their cultural identity, personal and academic goals. The Rock Creek Multicultural Center provides mentorship and leadership opportunities through one on one contact and on-campus multicultural programming.
The Rock Creek Equity Ambassador Program is comprised of high achieving students from various cultural backgrounds. Ambassadors have an interest in developing leadership skills through intercultural collaboration, diversity training, and interaction with PCC faculty, staff and administration. Through a combination of workshops, retreats, volunteer opportunities and introductions to PCC faculty, staff and students leaders; Equity Ambassadors learn about leadership skills needed to make a difference on campus and in the community.
