Here is a look at some of the news stories about PCC from around the local area and the nation in January. In total, PCC events and people appeared 80 times in the local community or national online media, newspapers or TV/radio. This is an increase of 11 percent versus this time a year ago.

Jan. 3, OregonLive, Forest Grove News-Times Beaverton Valley Times, Lake Oswego Review, Portland Observer, Hillsboro Argus and Newberg Graphic spotlighted the upcoming Financial Aid Day.

Jan. 3, The Oregonian featured a student in the Middle College Program.

January, Preston Pulliams was quoted in the 30 ideas section of the Oregon Business Magazine’s 30-year special edition. His idea was for business to achieve environmental sustainability.

Jan. 6, the Times Newspaper Group, Portland Observer and The Lake Oswego Review highlighted the Winter Powwow.

Jan. 7, the Business Journal ranked PCC No. 2 on the top community colleges in the Portland area based on FTE. Clark College was No. 1.

Jan. 11, the Cascade Festival of African Films was profiled by OregonLive, The Oregonian’s A&E and The Tigard-Tualatin Times. The Hillsboro Argus even featured the Cascade Festival of African Films on its front page.

Jan. 12, the inauguration of Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith at the Cascade Campus made the local news sections of The Portland Observer and The Skanner.

Jan. 12, OregonLive featured PCC Foundation’s night with the Trail Blazers.

Jan. 13, a German language student who won a trip to study in Germany was profiled in The Lake Oswego Review.

Jan. 18, Asian New Year was profiled by OregonLive and The Asian Reporter.

Jan. 18, the Newberg Center’s green building features were highlighted by The Daily Journal of Commerce.

Jan. 18, The Portlander and The Times newspaper group showcased the upcoming Vagina Monologues.

Jan. 22, Preston Pulliams was quoted in a column by David Sarasohn of The Oregonian on making education a legislative priority. The story also was a press release on MarketWire.

Jan. 27, The Medford Mail Tribune reported on Preston Pulliams speech at a conference where he talked about his personal story and the importance of education.
