Cultivate spring surprises with gardener Rod Smith

ALOHA, Ore. – Spring is just around the corner and the time to prepare your garden for beautiful blooms is now. Join local expert Rod Smith for his popular nine-week garden series beginning in March at Portland Community College.The non-credit Home Gardening Series with Rod Smith will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, March 30 though May 25 in Room 1508 at Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Students can sign up for the entire series for $89, or $15 for individual lectures listed below.? Landscaping Design (March 30). Develop an individualized plan for your yard. Learn about plants, combinations, maintenance and what is best for your needs. ? Improving Soil Conditions (April 6). Learn how to improve your soil by amending, fertilizing and watering for better results.? Trees, Shrubs and Rose Care (April 13). Find out which trees and shrubs are appropriate for our soil and climate, and how different light and street appeal can affect your yard. Don’t miss the lecture on care of precious roses – a real pride in Northwest yards.? Annuals, Perennials and Bulbs (April 20). Make the most of color throughout the year by learning what plants go where at the right time. Plant bulbs that will give you a spring surprise.? Fruits and Vegetables (April 27). Get tips on planting a successful vegetable garden and fruit trees that will yield your favorite crops.? Lawn Care (May 4). Learn how to keep your lawn in top form year around. Discover how to take care of problem areas.? Pest Control (May 11). Discover safe and easy ways to rid your garden of insects and disease.? Pruning (May 18). Learn when, what, where and how to cut for the best results.? Watering and Irrigation (May 25). Learn how to install a home drip watering system in your yard.
