Eight Candidates Vying for Vacated Board Seat

With the resignation of former PCC Board of Directors member Dan Saltzman, the remaining board members are gearing up to appoint his replacement from a list of eight interested candidates.
The board set Feb. 18 as the day to interview candidates for the Zone 5 position vacated by Saltzman on Jan. 31. After 10 years as a board member, Saltzman was elected in November to serve as a Portland city commissioner.
The interviewing of candidates will be conducted from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Conference Room A/B at the Sylvania Campus. They will include short presentations by the candidates, followed by a question-and-answer session between the candidates and board members. The winning candidate will be announced and sworn in at the regularly scheduled March 4 meeting of the board.
According to board rules and Oregon Revised Statutes, when a member of an administrative board leaves his or her position in the middle of a term, the remaining board members can appoint a person to fill that vacancy through the remainder of the term. The person appointed to the Zone 5 position will serve until June 2001.
