PORTLAND — The intense demands of the ’90s leave many of us exhausted and dissatisfied. Slow down with Nurturing Your Heart and Soul, a five-week course offered on Wednesday evenings beginning July 2, at Portland Community College Cascade Campus.

Instructor Nessa Elila helps you explore and integrate in your life ideas for well-being using creativity, healthy humor, playfulness, kindness and zest for living.

Giving a New Kind of Birth

PORTLAND — Women have a depth of perceptions and insights unique to themselves. Explore your own insights in Writing: A Workshop for Women, a six-week class offered on Tuesday evenings beginning June 24 at Portland Community College Cascade Campus.

Instructor Carol Imani will lead you through this workshop format, including readings and belly-laughs, in whatever kind of writing (fiction or nonfiction) you’d like to do.

PORTLAND — Downsizing, stagnant wages and the cost of child care have led many to work for themselves. In The Self-Employment Tool Kit, a three-week class offered on Tuesday evenings beginning June 24, at Portland Community College Cascade Campus, you’ll learn baby steps on the jagged road of independence.

Instructor Christine Wagner explains how to shift perception in the ways of creating and working and understand the bigger picture of working on your own and doing something extra-ordinary.

Wine and How to Drink It

PORTLAND — Fine wine is too good to be left to the stuffed shirts of the world. Indulge yourself in Varietal Wine, a four-week course offered on Wednesdays beginning July 9 in Northeast Portland.

Instructor Bert Lock leads the tasting, which focuses on a single varietal each night (Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling) and contrasts each wine grape’s expression from different regions of the world.

Tuition is $20 plus $35 payable to the instructor at the first class for the wine tasting. The course meets at Great Wine Buys, 1515 N.E. Broadway, from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, call Portland Community College at 978-5205.
